Len Lichtenberger, the scientific founder of PLx Pharma, has identified a mechanism by which NSAIDs disrupt the mucosa and key surfactants such as phosphatidylcholine (PC) in the mucosa that all NSAIDs bind with and compromise their acid repelling properties.
NSAID-induced GI injury can be dramatically reduced by pre-associating an NSAID with PC. Based on proprietary formulations of the NSAID-PC complex, PLx has developed a robust pipeline of pain / inflammation and cardiovascular products.
